What To Say In Evangelism

According to a 1993 study, despite intense follow-up, the Church cannot account for 95% of people who make decisions for Christ. This is largely because many people get born again for the wrong reasons. They did not hear the full true Gospel of Christ. Infact, I dare say they did not hear the Gospel, because any “gospel” that does not talk about the following three (3) elements is not the Gospel at all.

  1. Sin: This is the problem of man. Death entered into the world through sin (See Romans 5:12). We must allow whoever we are preaching to, to see that he is a sinner in the light of God’s moral law i.e. the 10 commandments.
  2. Hell: If the Lagos state government stopped punishing traffic offenders, just imagine how much worse traffic will be. Hell is God’s just punishment for sinners. If sinners do not know or understand the punishment for their sin, they will see the suffering and death of Jesus as meaningless or unnecessary at best.
  3. Jesus Christ: He is The Way of escape from God’s wrath. The Way of escape from the destruction that is soon to come upon sinners. You must mention that Jesus is the only Son of God. That He suffered, was crucified, died, rose up, is alive today and offers forgiveness to anyone who humbly repents.

Do not promise people prosperity and happiness just to get them to make a decision for Christ. It is not biblical and if that person should die a hypocrite and end up in Hell, you will be responsible for his/her soul.

How To Overcome Timidity In Evangelism

Esther loved her people, Mordecai the only one she had and even her own soul. She wished she could run to the palace and blurt out all the evil Haman was doing. But she lacked one thing- Boldness. In a moment, she remembered that there was only one person who could give a young lady in a completely heathen nation, boldness like that of Moses before Pharoah. Esther knew what to do. And so after 3 days of fasting and prayer, even though she knew she might lose her head, Esther received boldness from God to go unto the king, e. (See Esther 4:16)

Peter and John had just been commanded not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. They were threatened and they knew their people, if upset, could go as far as stoning a man to death. They did it to Stephen. If they were to faithfully fulfil this great commission knowing that they might die in the process, they needed one thing- Boldness. So in Acts 4:29, they asked God for boldness. And verse 31, records that they were filled with boldness.

The Holy Spirit is the one who gives boldness to reach the lost. Just ask him in prayer, you may also fast. He will hear, He will answer.

How To Start A Witnessing Conversation

The fear of man is the biggest hurdle to overcome before we can share our faith. This is what you can do to simplify the process:

  1. Humanize the person: Smile and say a warm “Good morning!” You could even go-ahead to establish rapport. Compliment something about the person’s appearance that you genuinely admire. Ask where the person is from and what the person does.
  2. Hand the person a tract: As you do that, say, “Have you gotten yours?” This makes the person feel there is something they are missing out on and they need to grab it now.
  3. Ask questions: This helps you know the kind of person you’re dealing with. I mean, what if the person is already born again and maybe even a pastor…lol. Also, how you preach to a Muslim is different from how to preach to an Atheist. Ask if they believe in God and their thoughts on the afterlife i.e. what happens after death. Go into your message.

How To Preach Without Intimidation

On June 4th, we will be marching out in small groups to preach the gospel in our different communities. When you set out, go to any corner, street, place or person that the Holy Spirit is leading you. Don’t be afraid when someone says, “You can’t preach here.” According to the law, you have the right to preach the Gospel anywhere, to anyone, using any format you so desire.

Freedom of expression is one of the fundamental rights which are universally recognized and protected. The 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) (1999 CFRN), particularly Section 39 thereof, has expressly provided for the protection of this right because of its importance and relevance to the enhancement of personal liberty and democracy.

In simple terms, these are your rights according to the constitution:

  1. You are entitled to freedom of expression, including freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart ideas and information without interference
  2. You are entitled to own, establish and operate any medium for the dissemination of information, ideas and opinions
  3. As an individual, you have the right to receive information and the right to express and disseminate your opinion within the law

You can preach anywhere without intimidation when you know your legal rights.

God Has A Mirror

Photo by Polina Tankilevitch on Pexels.com

Before I leave the house, I look in the mirror so I can see myself in truth. I use my time in front of the mirror to correct anything that is out of order. My time in front of the mirror can make me pick a new dress entirely or wipe off all my makeup. It can make me change everything.

When we preach the Gospel to a sinner, we want Him to have a complete change of mind, heart and actions. I do not want my supposed convert to still think it’s okay to lie and steal and fornicate. This is why I must give him the Mirror to see himself in truth.

When he looks in the Mirror, he will quickly see that he is not as good as he thought he was. He will see that he is a liar, a thief, a murderer, a sexually immoral person, an idolater and a covetous man. He will panic at his sinful state and be desperate to change something.

The Law of God i.e. the 10 commandments, is God’s Mirror for the sinful man. Romans 3:20 says that law brings the knowledge of sin. If I am not convinced that I am a sinner headed for destruction, salvation would at best, be only a means to make my life better on earth, and not an escape from God’s coming wrath. I would be simply trying to improve my health and happiness instead of seriously trying to secure a place for myself in Heaven.

The law can be used as a “tutor” to bring sinners to Christ (See Gal. 3:24). While preaching, you must help the sinner compare how they are currently living their lives with God’s righteous standards as stated in the Law. Help them to see and acknowledge that they have fallen short and that if they stand before God in judgement, they will be condemned to Hell. Don’t mice words and sugarcoat things. Be bold!

Preach to the sinner as if they will die tonight because…they. just. might.

Women Evangelists

Photo by Andrea Piacquadio on Pexels.com

I have met a few women who, in just 5 minutes of conversing with them, I already know they are called to be evangelists. How? Deep calls unto deep (Psalm 42:7a). Over 90% of those God calls into the evangelistic office are women. Next time there is a call for evangelism, you will notice that majority of those who show up are women. It is not normal.

Jesus intentionally preached the Gospel to the Samaritan woman because He knew she would proclaim it to a whole city. Jesus intentionally led Mary Magdalene to the empty tomb because he knew she would announce His resurrection.

They say women are gullible, I say we easily believe and we easily tell. And this is why God can easily use us in this ministry of evangelism.

Psalm 68:11 says, The Lord gives the command; a great company of women proclaim it:” What is God’s command in these last days? He commands all people everywhere to repent (Acts 17:30). It is time to proclaim it.

Women, we have grace for evangelism, this is our ministry.

May God help us to arise and occupy till Jesus comes.

1 Thing You Should Never Do In Evangelism | Never Do This

Many times, when I go for evangelism, before I even start preaching to someone, they will ask me what church I attend. I always wondered why they were so interested in knowing my church before they listen to me. Now I know why.

I have discovered that a lot of people who don’t even go to church, will accept or reject your message based on the church you attend.

You see, many unchurched people actually know your church and the drama that goes on there. These days, the details of the lives of pastors are displayed on social media and on every news channel. Sinners know your pastor and they have an opinion about him/her.

You do not want someone to reject the message of salvation or blatantly refuse to listen to you because of the church you attend.

Don’t preach church, preach Christ Crucified. 1 Corinthians 1:23. You do not want a sinner to think he is going to Heaven because he is a member of your church. Then when he gets to eternity, he will be told, “…I don’t know you.”

If you may, only give information about your church if the person asks you or after you have led the person to Christ.

Remember that Jesus is not coming back to take only your denomination to Heaven but to take everyone everywhere who names the name of the Lord and has departed from iniquity. 2 Timothy 2:19.
