Afghanistan is a landlocked country located at the crossroads of Central and South Asia. Referred to as the Heart of Asia with a population of 40.2 million. The country is currently under the control of the Taliban, an Islamist political movement that returned to power in 2021 after a 20-year-long war with the United States and its allies. Due to the effects of war, the country has dealt with high levels of terrorism, poverty, and child malnutrition. Afghanistan is prominently rich in natural resources. Those resources include lithium, iron, zinc, and copper, amongst many others. It is also the largest producer of opium. 99.7% of people in Afghanistan practise Islam.
