40 Days To Purpose | Day 19

Today we are looking at the life of Gideon. It so happened that once again, the current of Israel went after idols. In a time of plenty and prosperity, they forgot God.

So in order to get their attention, God gave them over to the Midianites to deal with them. πŸ™†πŸ½β€β™€οΈOmo!! The Midianites no send ooo. They really dealt mercilessly with the Israelites. The scriptures record that during the time of harvest, they will come like locusts and ravage all the Israelites food and in addition, they destroyed everything in their way.

Infact, God’s people had to run to mountains and caves to hide just to spare their lives. After 7 years of punishment, God saw their suffering and decided to deliver them. He chose a man named Gideon.

At first, Gideon struggled with the idea that God wanted to use him and tried to prove it by all means. He eventually accepted the call. πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”I thought immediately Gideon accepted the call, God will tell him to go and find soldiers and go to battle, but that was not so. God said to Gideon something that really interested me. Judges 6:25

And it came to pass the same night, that the Lord said unto him, Take thy father’s young bullock, even the second bullock of seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that thy father hath, and cut down the grove that is by it.

In other words, God told him to start from his fathers house. He should solve his own problem first. He should repent first. Jesus said in Matthew 7:5 that you must cast the beam out of your own eyes first.

Why?

So that you can see clearly to cast the speck out of your brothers eyes. In your journey to purpose, how effective you are at helping others is greatly dependent on how much you have been helped.

Please do not skip your making process. It is vital to make sure you do not end your journey in one scandal or the other. Now does this mean one has to be perfect before thy can make an impact?

No.

By all means if God is sending you out do not resist. But you must stay in God’s presence. You must still be learning. You must still be taught under a mentor or mentors. Still listen to messages. Still read books. Still pay to attend seminars, retreats and programs.

Don’t assume because people are now calling you “Pastor, Pastor”, you now know everything.

The Kingdom of God doesn’t just work that way. Finally, lets take an example from out Lord Jesus Christ:

John 12:49
For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

John 5:19
Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

Even Jesus Christ made sure he was constantly hearing from God and seeing God so how much more we.

May God give us grace and strength to pursue him and maintain an intimate relationship with him in Jesus name Amen.
